How to Check for Firmware Updates
Follow these steps to check for and apply any available firmware updates:
Note: If you haven’t connected your Sharpener 3 to the Sparx Hockey App yet, refer to this article for setup instructions before proceeding.
- Open the Sparx Hockey Mobile App Launch the app on your mobile device.
- Connect to Your Sharpener Tap the Sharpen icon in the bottom menu to connect to your Sparx Sharpener.
- Automatic Firmware Check Once connected, the sharpener will automatically check for any available firmware updates.
Internet Connection Required
An active internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular data) is required to complete the firmware check. Please ensure your phone is connected to the internet before proceeding.
What to Expect
- No Update Available If no firmware update is needed, Alert 71 will clear, and you can proceed with sharpening.
- Update AvailableIf an update is available:
- A pop-up will appear within the app.
- Tap “Update Firmware” to begin the update process.
- Once complete, Alert 71 will be cleared.
Important: Stay Connected During the Update
To ensure the firmware update completes successfully, follow these guidelines:
- Stay in the App Remain in the Sparx Hockey app while the update is in progress.
- Keep Your Screen Active Prevent your phone from going to sleep and avoid switching to other apps.
- Stay Close to the Sharpener Keep your phone near the sharpener at all times.
- Do Not Walk Away Avoid carrying the phone away from the unit to maintain a strong connection.
How to Temporarily Bypass Alert 71
If you need to sharpen before updating:
- Press and hold the Cancel button on the sharpener for 4 seconds.
- This will temporarily clear Alert 71, allowing you to continue sharpening.
- Afterward, return to the steps above to complete the firmware update.
